HORIZONTAL APPLICATIONS

The MxL Induction Heating System is suitable for horizontal applications including replacing steam based pre-heating, enhancing production and controlling temperature zones in SAGD. Horizontal systems can be made contiguous or segmented depending on the pay zone(s) configuration. Because the systems are electrical, there are very few side effects and no extra waste to deal with.

Inductor Tool Assemblies for horizontal wells have many different requirements than vertical systems. As with a vertical application maintaining the efficient magnetic coupling determines the diameter of the ITA. Casing diameters and perforations for horizontal systems vary widely and must be taken into account. An ITA diameter of 4 1/2 inches is the typical starting point for horizontal applications. The strength and friction reducing technology developed by Madis for horizontal applications allow an ITA to be pushed up to 1000 meters depending on well conditions.

Recently finished, our design for a 6 5/8 inch tool is our best yet, incorporating lessons learned in installations over many years. With the greatly simplified and easily replaceable interconnect plugs between ITA sections rig time is drastically reduced. Lifting the ITA sections has been greatly improved with the development of a new carrier. Our design of friction reducing feed-through increases the length that can be pushed out. Retro-fit and moveable the 6 5/8 inch ITA can be used in multiple wells for SAGD pre-heat or production applications. Best of all the technologies developed scale to our 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 inch systems allowing faster and easier installations across the board.

In early 2013, Madis employees rewrote our P.E.P.S. software to offer better models of horizontal wells. MxL heaters have been compatible with horizontal wells for some years, but we found many variables within the configuration that did not behave as we expected them to. Now, our P.E.P.S. software has been rebuilt to contend with the many surprises one can encounter with the configuration.
